Attendees
Richard Swanston (Chair)
Adrian Allen (Treasurer)
Matt McNichol
Barry Swanston
Stephen Broaders
Siobhan Broaders
Phillip O’Sullivan
Dave Tyce
Darren Paul

Apologies
Pete McDowell, Dee McDowell, Laurik Mathheu, Yannik Lemmonier, Biddy, Matt
McMurtry
Action points highlighted in bold
1. There were no previous minutes to approve

2. Treasurer’s Report
AA - Income was considerably down understandable (covid). Outstanding fees had
been entered and assumed they would be paid. Overall balance of £4,700 between
the 2 bank accounts. Proposed MMcN, seconded DP and agreed.

3. Possible Event Dates
Nationals - Galway – Yannik was suggesting 24/25 August 2024
Northerns - Ballyholme was not available in May – had offered 20/21 April 2024
which was too early. Antrim will host whenever IMA want. After discussion was
agreed that Swannie to ask Antrim for a May date and keep a check on algae
situation. Noted that Antrim only have 3 ribs so additional support may be needed.
RS to arrange. Saturday would be 6 x short sprint races and Sunday ordinary
traditional race. Antrim venue proposed by AA and seconded by RS and agreed
Easterns - Swords suggested for 21/22 September depending on high tides dates –
Stephen B to check

BS queried if 29ers would be invited to events. Swannie to liaise with them.
Inlands - Worlds on 28 June to 5 July so to get a 4 th Irish event in it would need to be
early June. Blessington suggested as possible venue with possibility of getting some
additional local boats out or a sundry class for old boats. PO’S to check availability
in first two weeks of June
Thre was a query regarding how many of the Swords boats would travel to other
events. SB definite, possibly Dermot, possibly Biddy.
It was noted that the Cong to Galway passage race should not clash on calendar.

4. Election of Officers
The Chair would pass to Matt McNichol
Proposed by RS and seconded by BS and agreed
The Secretary role would be discussed with Yannick and on assumption he agreed it
was proposed by AA and seconded by RS and agreed

5. Ideas for the Future
Need new blood into the fleet. Suggested fleet captains do “try a sail” days and
enthuse others. It was up to each club to do their best. Noted that Swords had had
a recent influx, some of whom might travel. It was agreed that 29ers should be
invited to all events. RS to follow this up.
Also need maximise the Dart 16 fleet for the Nationals and other events. Laurik and
Yannick to push GBSC members.
There was a discussion around age handicaps for Tigers to get the old boats out
sailing and agreed this was a good idea. Handicap would coincide with Hurricane
5.9 handicap of SCHRS 1.03. Agreed to maintain the joint start for F18s, Hurricane
5.9 and Hobie Tigers.
It was suggested this should be tested for a year as a pilot and then review and it
was Proposed by BS and seconded by SB and agreed
There was a discussion around whether Dart 16s / Dart18s should get a separate
start if they had a decent fleet out. Laurik and Yannik to discuss with Dart 16
sailors.
There was a proposal that if the Darts 16s/18s get 6 or more boats at any away
event that the IMA would pay their entry fees (Antrim, Swords and Blessington) and
it was Proposed by AA and seconded by DP and agreed on basis that it must be
minimum of 6 boats.

6. AOB
It was noted that registration needed to be minimum of 2 weeks before the event to
let Clubs know numbers. Suggested there should be a late entry penalty or an early
bird discount. It was proposed to rationalise all entry fees to £90 with an early bird
fee of £80. It was discussed that the IMA website should offer a facility to take all
registrations, rather than each Club doing it separately. Fees would be paid into the
IMA account who would then in turn pay the Clubs. There was a brief discussion
about also providing a discounted rate if a boat entered all 4 events and again that
this would need to be done through the IMA website. Siobhan and Swannie to
investigate this further
SB asked about attendees at the Worlds. AA thinking about it, also MMcN. One
definite from Swords
RS handed the Chairmanship over to MMcN who wished everyone a successful
season and encouraged everyone to travel and put in a good effort to encourage
others.
Date of next meeting to be 5 th December 2023 at 7.00pm on zoom (as many of the
action points above needed immediate attention and feedback)

Meeting ended 8.10pm
